Arizona Cardinals weigh deal extension for defensive end Calais Campbell – NFL News
Arizona Cardinals have indicated that they will be looking to keep their defensive end Campbell with them in the long run.
The Cardinals are in phase of planning to open their negotiations with agents. Their priority is the defensive end Calais Campbell, according to a report in the Arizona Republic. The club is about to start negotiating a deal for
the players, as they are keen to keep him on their side for the long haul.
"I trust in this organization and (general manager) Rod Graves; they'll do right by Calais," said Cardinals defensive end Darnell Dockett, who signed an extension before last season. "When you are trying to build a championship
team, you got to start keeping your guys around. You can't let guys leak out of here and go to other teams. We're trying to get back to the Super Bowl. We got to not only work together but we also got to have the guys here to have the weapons to get it done."
According to the information that the negotiations were expected to open up in a couple of weeks time and a deal is expected to reach for the extension of the player contract with the club.
At the moment Campbell is a rookie, and has been paid $600K for the whole current season by the Cardinals.
If the Cardinals do not sign an extension deal with him, he will be available for a free agent after the season, expected to fetch a handsome amount for the deal with any club. However, as reports indicate Cardinals have already
weighed the option of signing the deal with the player.
He had already been a second-round pick out of Miami in the season of the National Football League (NFL) 2008.
He has also been performing well in the current season of the American football league and considered to be very bright prospects for the Cardinals with their current position 2-6. The game experts who have seen him playing with
the Cardinals have commended his level of the game and indicated him as great future of the game.
He has been leading the Cardinals with only five sacks in the current season of NFL. He also has four goal blocks to his credit.
