Arizona Diamondbacks' general manager Kevin Towers stays optimistic to trade – MLB Update
The Arizona Diamondbacks' management is now looking optimistic to deal with other franchises regarding potential trade talks. Mainly the Diamondbacks played offensive throughout the 2012 Major League Baseball season but still they could not get the desired results.
On the other hand, as soon as the season was ended, the Diamondbacks started looking to add some more fire power in the roster.
At that time, many believed that the Diamondbacks' management will trade some of their inexperienced players and will get experienced ones. However, soon the situation was changed with some internal franchise issue and they took no further action on their promised initiative.
Now the Diamondbacks' GM, Kevin Towers during the 2012 Major League Baseball’s annual Winter Meetings, spoke openly about his team’s future plans especially regarding trade.
“Even though last year was a disappointing year, I still think that same ballclub, given maybe a different year and a different set of circumstances and doing some of the little things that are hard to measure better and smarter, that we can be a much better ballclub,” Towers said.
He added, “I know everybody thinks you have to tweak it here and tweak it there — and there are some years you have to — but I still look at my club and am a little dumbfounded (at the results). I think we were a better ballclub.”
The Diamondbacks’ biggest concern is Justin Upton at the moment. He is currently a free agent and many teams have already showed interest in him. He last played for the Diamondbacks and now seeks a potential re-signing with them.
Diamondbacks' management is however, still reluctant to give him another chance. Though he played a good season with them but overall they do not want to sign him with a lengthy deal. Upton and his agent on the other hand, want a long term contract.
Meanwhile, many other teams are also showing interest in him as he is an experienced campaigner with a five-year Major League experience.
Playing with the Diamondbacks in the past season, he finished with .280 hitting average along with 17 homers, 67 RBIs and .355 OBP.
