Arizona Diamondbacks’ Ian Kennedy to be listed as starter for Opening Day – MLB News
It looks as if the Arizona Diamondbacks have listed Ian Kennedy as a potential starter for Opening Day.
Kennedy’s spring performance of eight strike-outs in eight innings over three starts has helped him get selected as a possible starter against the Colorado Rockies.
Ian is a tremendous pitcher, as he is tremendously talented and has a competitive drive which is second to none. The Diamondbacks will be looking to him to provide a great start to their regular season.
"It's just a big honor. It's something you dream about as a little kid. You want to be that Opening Day guy. It's just a big honor. I'm at a loss for words,” Kennedy said. "I haven't thought about it. I'm probably just going to try and prepare as if that's
just my day to start."
Kennedy only gave up eight hits and just five runs as he managed to get two strike-outs and a walk in just over three innings that he pitched against the Milwaukee Brewers. Also, on March 4 his pitching brilliance kept the Padres scoreless for just over
three innings.
There is no doubt that Kennedy is a tremendous pitcher with the talent and skill to guide the Diamondbacks to many victories. During the spring session, Kennedy has shown his worth with his effective pitching. It is imperative that Ian remains healthy and
physically fit to take on the immense responsibility of starting on Opening Day for the Diamondbacks.
Arizona will be looking to Kennedy to get them to a dominating start to their regular season against the Colorado Rockies. The Diamondbacks’ general manager Kevin Towers has shown great support and respect to the pitching prowess of Kennedy.
Towers, while commenting on Kennedy said, "He pitched very well for this ballclub last year. He finished strong. He's a pitcher; this guy has four pitches. It's quite an honor for a young pitcher that's got less than two years' experience in the big leagues."
It will be interesting to see how well Kennedy does as he starts on Opening Day for the Diamondbacks.
