Arizona Diamondbacks: Regular season results – MLB April 2011
With only 12 wins in 39 appearances during the Spring Training season, things weren’t looking very bright for Arizona Diamondbacks. Kirk Gibson and his men were hoping to change the course of their campaign with strong and consistent performances in the
regular season.
Looking to get things back on track, the Diamondbacks displayed some high quality baseball in game one of their three match series against Colorado Rockies. Showing great composure under pressure, Kirk Gibson’s side pulled off a spectacular 7-6 win to take
a 1-0 lead in the series.
"A great game," Putz said. "What an Opening Day. It was just a battle all day. Ian [Kennedy] scuffled early, gained his composure and really started pitching. The guys in the bullpen were throwing well. We were able to scratch and claw, get a lead and hold
it at the end."
However, the Diamondbacks failed to deliver the goods in game two of the series. Making a large number of unforced errors, the NL West team let their opponents come back into the contest to level the series at 1-all.
The Diamondbacks made a poor start to their next three match series against Chicago Cubs. Looking completely out of sorts, Arizona’s batters failed to execute their game plan. Cubs, on the other hand, grabbed opportunities with both hands and they made the
Diamondbacks run for their money with a strong 4-1 win.
Arizona Diamondbacks continued their poor run in game two of the series as well. Although they put up a brave fight, they failed to get over the finishing line once more to suffer their first series loss of the month.
Looking to restore some of their lost pride, the Diamondbacks came up with a decent performance in third and final game of the series, securing a superb 6-4 victory. Chris Young provided his team with much needed momentum as he doubled, tripled and drove
in two runs as the Diamondbacks rallied past the Cubs 6-4.
"[The ivy] is kind of dead out there right now but that kind of makes it worse. It's all twigs," the centerfielder said of his fourth-inning grab. "It's completely worth it if you catch it, but if you drop it you'll be mad at yourself for even going after
it."
In game one of a three match series against Cincinnati Reds, the Diamondbacks looked in supreme form as they outplayed their opponents in all aspects of the game. With a thrilling 13-2 win, Kirk Gibson’s Diamondbacks looked to be a settled side. Losing series
against the New York Mets, San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs the Diamondbacks ended the month of April with a poor 11-15 win-loss record.
