Arizona Diamondbacks: Regular season results – MLB July 2011
Arizona Diamondbacks ended the month of June on a pretty poor note as they were crushed 1-2 in a three match series against Cleveland Indians. Kirk Gibson and his men were looking to get things back on track with strong and consistent performances in July
2011.
Despite putting up a great fight in game one of a three match series against Oakland Athletics, the Diamondbacks failed to get over the finishing line to let the opposition team clinch a thrilling 5-4 victory. Showing amazing fighting spirit, determination
and mental strength, Kirk Gibson’s side raised their game to a higher level in game two to level the series at 1-all.
Chris Young, once again, was brilliant for the Diamondbacks as he had three hits with four RBI’s and he blasted a towering two run homer to lift his team to a much needed win.
"His (batting practice) has been better and we've just been waiting to see it come out of the sessions in the cage," Gibson said. "He's just learned to slow it down, let the ball come to him and use his quick hands. He's not a big guy ... but he's very powerful."
Although the Diamondbacks had momentum on their side, they were unable to make the most of their opportunities in the third and final game to let the Athletics secure a comfortable 7-2 win. Kirk Gibson and his men were very disappointed with the way things
went for them in deciding the game but they aimed to keep up their hard work and come back stronger.
Looking to top the Wild Card standings table, the Diamondbacks made a bright start to their next three match series against Milwaukee Brewers. Crushing the inform Brewers in first two games, the Diamondbacks earned their first series win of the month in
great style. In the opening game, the NL West team held their nerves to clinch a nail biting 8-6 victory.
However, in the second game of the series, the Diamondbacks completely dominated their rivals to take a 2-0 lead in the series. Losing 1-3 in third game, the Diamondbacks made too many unforced errors, which allowed the opposition team to dictate terms.
The Diamondbacks made a solid start to a four match series against the St. Louis Cardinals, recording an emphatic 4-1 win in the opening game. In game two, Kelly Johnson hit a wonderful grand slam to break a seventh inning tie and Arizona rallied past the
Brewers to take a 2-0 lead.
However, the Diamondbacks failed to maintain their form in the last two games, allowing their opponents to level the series at 2-all. Ending the month with wins over Los Angeles Dodgers, Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padres, they improved their win-loss record
to 59-49.
