Arizona Diamondbacks: Regular season results – MLB September 2011
With emphatic series victories over Washington Nationals, San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies, Arizona Diamondbacks were on a nine match winning streak. The leading NL West team had showed great determination and character to change the course of their
regular season campaign.
The Diamondbacks were only 11-15 in their win-loss record at the end of April and Kirk Gibson and his men had put in a lot of hard work to turn things around for themselves in the Majors League. However, the Diamondbacks made a very poor start to the month
of September, suffering a 6-2 loss in the opening game of a three match series against their arch rivals, San Francisco Giants.
Looking to get things back on track, the Diamondbacks raised their game to an entirely new level to secure a comfortable 2-1 win in game two as they levelled the series 1-all. The Diamondbacks continued their impressive form in third and final game as well
to earn their first series victory of the month.
Willie Bloomquist hit a two run triple to let the Arizona Diamondbacks ease past the Giants 4-1. Looking in supreme form, the Diamondbacks made a solid start to their next three match series against Colorado Rockies, clinching a thrilling 10-7 win in the
opening game. Geoff Blum had a spectacular night as he hit a ferocious homer to lead the Diamondbacks to a deserving victory.
"I've been itching for about six, seven months now," Blum said. "I'm more than ready to jump on these guys' coattails and help them out."
Although Kirk Gibson’s side were outplayed in second game, they came back strongly to register another superb series win with a sensational 5-3 effort in the third and final game. Joe Saunders was absolutely brilliant for his side as he pitched out of the
jam and Arizona Diamondbacks battled back to win their second series of the month.
"I figured he was either going to chew me out or light a spark," Saunders said. "It was nice to see Gibby come out there and say, 'I've got faith in you, let's make some pitches and get out of this mess here."
The Diamondbacks continued to impress the critics throughout the month of September and they ended the regular season with wins over San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates and San Francisco Giants. The Diamondbacks proved to everyone in
the league that they can compete with all of the top tier teams.
Their performance during the month of September was commendable as they managed to build some much needed confidence in the team. It seemed that the team had finally gotten their perfect balance between their pitching and batting to get some positive results.
