Arizona Diamondbacks acquire Armando Galarraga from Detroit Tigers – MLB News
It looks like the Arizona Diamondbacks are strengthening their pitching depth by recently adding Armando Galarraga from the Detroit Tigers.
The trade involves the Diamondbacks giving up two Minor League pitchers Kevin Eichorn and Ryan Robowski.
Armando will join Barry Enright, Ian Kennedy, Joe Saunders and Zach Duke in the pitching rotation.
Diamondbacks’ general manager Kevin Towers is confident that Galarraga is a tremendous pitcher and will most likely make it into the final pitching rotation for the team.
“We want to land in the field with our best five, and Armando’s inclusion in the team before spring training will give us an added advantage.” Tower said.
Galarraga has signed on with the Diamondbacks for $2.3 million for the 2011 season which is dependent on his performance. However, the team has shown their support of the pitcher, due to his immense talent. Arizona feels that he is the perfect pitcher for
them to strengthen their pitching rotation.
“I know I have ability to make many good things for Diamondbacks,” he said. “The competition is tough and will be interesting too.”
Tigers’ general manager Dave Dombrowski is not so comfortable with trading their pitcher for two minor league players that will most likely not be in the Tigers’ rotation for quite some time. However he is confident of the two new players and is looking
to refine their skills and possibly bring them in to the pitching rotation.
“We believe both of the boys will perform well at higher level league.” GM Dave Dombrowski said.
It will be interesting to see what type of impact Galarraga will have for the Diamondbacks. The team is desperate for a successful 2011 season with the hope of possibly making it into the playoffs. The addition of Galarraga is a strong indication as to the
team’s intentions to strengthen their pitching depth.
As Spring Training is due to start soon, the Diamondbacks are looking to put in a good performance and finalise their rotation and line-up as they face some of the top tier teams in the league.
