Arizona Diamondbacks’ base-running percentage improving – MLB News
The Arizona Diamondbacks are currently having balanced results in 2012 Major League Baseball competition. Their offence and defence also look good when it comes down to the wire in any crucial game.
However, the most promising factor of their somewhat consistent results is the base-running percentage. This is a fact that home runs do count in any team’s win, but being quick on bases is the other big fact of any side’s consistent and big margin wins.
Recently, first-base coach Eric Young stated in the media about Diamondbacks’ current base running improvements saying, “Last year, we wanted to be aggressive, This year we want to be smart aggressive. Guys are more in tune with that and hopefully there are better results with that in the end,"
Young is right here saying his team’s new style of play which also matches with the Diamondbacks’ original game. Since start of the 2012 season, the Diamondbacks’ base running is improving with huge numbers as compared to 75 ran outs last season’s poor stats.
On Tuesday, against the Washington Nationals, the Diamondbacks’ stats were quite well balanced. They had just seven outs on the bases which said to be the good average in their own league.
On contrary to Diamondbacks’ improvement on base-running and the good results they are getting from their new style of play, the Arizona’s baseball franchise has some other areas to improve as well.
Some of their good and hard hitting players are not enjoying the current outings. Recently, the Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt was also seemed not happy when he slammed his bat after a miss hit.
"It feels better," he said. "I don't think I'm locked in where I would like to be. But that can change very quickly. You see sometimes a guy takes a horrible swing, breaks his bat and then all of a sudden goes off and hits .400."
Though his above statement does not clarify anything of his sudden change of mood, but his late reaction does give an obvious indication that there are some basic things still to be done in the Diamondbacks roster in order to decrease the risk of any potential alarming situation.
