Arizona Diamondbacks battle past San Francisco Giants 5-4 – MLB Update
Arizona Diamondbacks battled past San Francisco Giants 5-4 at the Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona on Friday, April 6 in their regular season encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
Ian Kennedy had his first win of the season as he pitched with great control and accuracy. Tim Lincecum, on the other hand, made too many errors as he lost to the Diamondbacks. Kennedy allowed just three runs and nine hits in just over six innings to earn his fourth consecutive win against the Giants.
Chris Young and Paul Goldschmidt had a great time on the plate, hitting home runs in the first inning. Ryan Roberts added a crucial two run double to break the sixth inning tie and the Diamondbacks clinched a thriller on Friday night.
"It's good to see everybody pick up where they left off," Roberts said. "It's been a long spring but to come out today and have everybody have success up and down the lineup is nice."
Tim Lincecum, who lost to the Diamondbacks for the fourth straight time, will be looking to work out a way to win games against Giants’ arch rivals in National League.
"I left a floating changeup up there in the middle of the plate and a fastball that wasn't executed well," Lincecum said. "With the exception of that first inning, I settled down pretty well and did all right, but all right isn't good enough on Opening Day."
The Diamondbacks made the most of available opportunities last season to win the National League West Division title and they opened their 2012 regular season with a great win on Friday night.
Considering the depth and quality in Arizona’s batting and pitching lineups, Manager Kirk Gibson will be expecting his team to at least reach the World Series finals this season.
The Giants, on the other hand, will be extremely disappointed by the fact they were unable to get over the winning line. Despite putting up a brave fight, the Giants failed to play their A game in pressure situations, which played a key role in deciding the result of the game.
