Arizona Diamondbacks beaten by Philadelphia Phillies 4-5 – MLB Recap
The Arizona Diamondbacks lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 4-5 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, August 5 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
Phillies’ pitchers played beautifully and earned a great victory for their team. Starter Cliff Lee pitched eight innings and allowed four runs and eight hits along with four earned runs. He struck-out five and his ERA remained consistent at 3.78.
Not only Phillies’ starter, but their closer also played well and provided great support to his team to oust the Diamondbacks in style.
"That's a big hit, when he went up there, I said that the pitcher was the one in trouble. If your weight leans forward just a little bit, you become an arm hand hitter don't use your backside. The backside is what drives the ball and gives you quick hands a barrel that's quick with bat speed. If you miss, you might as well be way out there. There isn't that much of a difference," Philadelphia manager Charlie Manuel said.
Jonathan Papelbon pitched 1.0 innings and received only one hit with no run. He remained calm on the mound as his ERA stayed consistent at 3.00.
On the other hand, the Diamondbacks’ pitchers could not play well and lost the game for their team.
"They outexecuted us when it counted. They put pressure on us all day. It's frustrating but you just get over it and come back tomorrow," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said.
They all were way-ward on the mound and could not match the Phillies’ upfront brilliance.
Trevor Cahill started the play for the Diamondbacks and was hit with three runs, six hits and three earned runs along with a homer. He could have played much better as his ERA was strong at 3.76 but the Phillies’ batters were more determined as they all played Cahill with ease.
Later David Hernandez came to pitch but he was also hammered with three hits and one run which eventually proved disastrous for the Diamondbacks as they lost with bitter agony.
