Arizona Diamondbacks beaten by Philadelphia Phillies 5-8 – MLB Recap
The Arizona Diamondbacks beaten by the Philadelphia Phillies 5-8 on Tuesday, April 24 at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona during their first three-game regular series matchup of 2012 Major League Baseball season.
With this win, the Phillies ended their three-game losing skid that was started on Saturday, April 21 against the San Diego Padres.
Hunter Pence started the game with full thrust for the Phillies as he hit a homer to left early in the fourth innings and gave his team lead.
"What it meant was he had outstanding batting practice and excellent distance of batting practice," Philadelphia Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said of Pence, who missed Monday's game with a sore left shoulder. "But that don't put no runs on the board for us. I like the one he hit in the game much better."
Later the Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson stated for his team’s defeat. Gibson was quite optimistic before this game as many media sources quoted him saying the Diamondbacks’ will surely start a fresh game plan against their tough opponents including the Phillies, Miami Marlins, Washington Nationals, New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals.
He said, "I thought he caught it. That's what I saw, I went out there and asked Angel and he said he saw it hit the ground. That is what he saw. What am I going to say. He is not trying to blow the call.”
Phillies kept their pressure on the Diamondbacks as Laynce Nix later in the bottom of the fourth struck a homer to right field and gave his team healthy four runs advantage.
Though the Diamondbacks tried hard to make a comeback into the game when third baseman Cody Ransom hit a homer in fifth innings, but still it was nothing against the Phillies aggressive hitters who went passed further every time their opponents alarmed them with one or two runs.
Eventually the game ended 8-5 in the favour of the Phillies who are now preparing their next encounter with the Chicago Cubs.
Both teams are now scheduled to play their next and series decisive game on Wednesday, April 25.
