Arizona Diamondbacks came from behind to defeat Los Angeles Dodgers 6-3 – MLB Update
Arizona Diamondbacks made their rebound as they overpowered the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-3 in the series finale at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles on Sunday, July 31 to take the series 2-1.
"I think we're a different team now and we've developed a lot of character," manager Kirk Gibson said. "This is what it's all about, and guys love it. It'll probably be pretty exhaustive.”
Kirk’s words were true when we look at the way the Diamondbacks retaliated in their previous games.
They also started this outing in a devastating manner as Ryan Roberts blistered a 375-feet long one-run homer off Dodgers’ starter Rubby De La Rosa to provide his team 1-0. Gerardo Parra followed with a dazzling hit to send the ball out of the park and to
grab a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
De La Rosa tossed a scoreless inning and it looked as if he would make a perfect rebound but in the fourth, he again went wobbly. Diamondbacks’ centre-fielder Collin Cowgill drove in a single to centre-field to steal the third run. Dodgers’ David Navarro
knocked a one-run homer to the Diamondbacks’ starter Joe Saunders to cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of this inning.
However, Diamondbacks’ bat was not ready to give back the game to the Dodgers, as Xavier Nady hit a sacrifice fly to right-field to score fourth run in the fifth inning. Then Parra punched a homer to take it to 6-1 in the eighth inning.
Saunders defended this score brilliantly with his gritty seven innings, allowing only two runs and taking three strike-outs. The right-hand hurler grabbed his eighth win of the season. However, Ryan Cook replaced him after Andre Ethier opened a chance to
score a single with two bases loaded. Cook allowed two hits to send the Dodgers batters onto bases.
With Matt Kemp and Ethier on base, Juan Rivera drove in to help Ethier score the Dodgers’ second run in the eighth inning. Then David Hernandez and J.J. Putz entered the mound with one out and gave away an RBI single to Tony Gwynn Jr. However, Putz struck-out
the final two batters to get his 24th save in 28 chances.
