Arizona Diamondbacks complete extraordinary comeback against Milwaukee Brewers in NLDS – MLB Update
Arizona Diamondbacks completed one of the most impressive comebacks in the history of Major League Baseball history, overpowering the Milwaukee Brewers 10-6 in Game 4 on Wednesday, October 5 at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona to level the National League
Division Series at two-each after falling in the first two games.
Paul Goldschmidt inspired the Diamondbacks to an 8-1 win in the third game with a Grand Slam off Shaun Marcum in the fifth inning. Corey Hart was the only successful batter in Milwaukee’s line-up, smashing a home-run towards left-field in the third inning.
However, an offensive failure thereafter gave the Diamondbacks an opportunity to make use of the situation and level the series in Game 4.
Ryan Roberts replicated Goldschmidt’s effort in the first inning of Game 4 to impose early pressure on the visitors. Playing the game with an average defence, Arizona used six pitchers to halt the National League Central Champions and successfully draw level
in the NLDS.
"We had confidence all year, we had confidence when we were down 0-2," Roberts said. "Anything can happen, that's why you play this set of five."
Chris Young slammed two home-runs down left-field in the game to become the first player to score as many homers in a single post-season game for the Diamondbacks. Commenting on the spectacular comeback, Young articulated that the team had the required impetus
to topple the Brewers. He stated that the clubhouse had aimed to first level the series and now that they are here, they are upbeat for the final.
In the regular season, the D-backs toppled reigning World Champions San Francisco Giants to win the NL West title. They picked up pace just after the mid-season classic and won from where no one would have expected.
In the final, Arizona’s 21-game winning ace Ian Kennedy will take on Yovani Gallardo and if statistics are to be relied upon, the Diamondbacks are in with a chance.
Milwaukee’s manager Ron Roenicke, however, remained confident that his team is resilient and will play to its full potential in on Friday, October 7.
Three of the four Division Series are going into Game five. The last time this happened in 2001, Arizona went all the way to lift the World Series. Are we in for a repeat?
