Arizona Diamondbacks complete sweep of Houston Astros 4-2 - MLB Update
The Arizona Diamondbacks were successful in winning the last of the three game series over the Houston Astros 4-2 effectively sweeping them at the Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas on May 29.
The Diamondbacks surprisingly now lead the National League West, as they have won six consecutive road games and 14 overall games out of their last 16 to capture the top spot.
Although J. A. Happ was nearly flawless in the six innings that he pitched and contributed to his team with the first home-run of his career, the Astros lost once again. Happ sacrificed two hits as he recovered after walking the bases loaded in the very
first inning. The homer he belted out covered a distance of 387 feet. The Astros lost a game which could have easily been won had they cashed in on the opportunities presented.
Happ was brilliant after stumbling in the first inning. After that he did not sacrifice a single hit until Willie Bloomquist came forward and belted one towards centre-field. He retired 12 batters before Bloomquist’s hit. Happ managed to strike-out eight
and walk four.
Kirk Gibson is being humble about his team leading the National League West and has plans for their future games already. "We just need to remain humble and we'll go to work this home stand," Gibson said. "We've got something planned for Tuesday, we got
something planned for Wednesday. We'll just keep seeking out and searching out to be better and better and to be able to handle more situations that are ahead of us."
Xavier Nady was definitely the star from the Diamondbacks’ side as he unleashed a two hit double in the crucial eighth inning effectively winning the game for Arizona. He dominated the eighth inning by scoring twice.
Josh Collmenter was the pitcher from Arizona’s side as he pitched for six innings in which he allowed four hits, struck-out five and walked one.
J. J. Putz was successful in continuing the longest save streak in the Major Leagues as he captured his sixteenth straight of the season.
J. Keppinger scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning. That was followed by Happ’s 387 feet home-run in the fifth inning. The Astros had the lead but failed to maintain it which resulted in defeat for them.
The sixth inning saw Chris Young hit a sacrifice fly off which Justin Upton scored, effectively putting up the first run from the Diamondbacks’ side. The eighth inning saw Nady double as Ryan Roberts and Young scored. He then proceeded to finish off the
game by scoring after Juan Miranda singled.
