Arizona Diamondbacks could sign Japanese shortstop Hiroyuki Nakajima – MLB Update
The Arizona Diamondbacks are showing great interest in Japanese star Hiroyuki Nakajima. He is currently playing in Seibu Lions and performing with great temperament.
Reports are coming that Nakajima has visited Diamondbacks’ Chase Field and showed his interest as well to play for Arizona based baseball franchise.
Winter Meetings are near when majority of teams will be finalising their free agent signings. Both sides are in talks and the potential decision is expected soon.
Nakajima is a free agent this offseason and can be a vital in a new role playing in the biggest baseball league in the world.
Earlier news came out in the media that some other Major League teams are also showing interest in the Japanese star.
The Yankees were the first team early in this year that started to talk with Nakajima’s agent for a potential contract.
However the potential deal was failed due to some personal issues of Nakajima.
“We unfortunately could not come to an agreement with Hiroyuki, We wish him the best of luck during the upcoming 2012 season," Yankees’ general manager Brian Cashman said in a statement released by the club.
Nakajima is a good player and that is the main reason why Diamondbacks wants his presence in the roster.
Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks also recognise that they need a good shortstop this coming season. Many experts also believe that the Diamondbacks need some aggressive players just to perform more consistently.
They recently received pitcher Matt Reynolds and somewhat made their roster stronger.
“It's a sad moment to have to leave. But on the other hand, I have to look forward, I didn't know or hear about anything happening. Hopefully I left a good impression on the Rockies in my time there," Matt said after he was traded from the Colorado Rockies.
Reynolds finished this past season with 4.40 ERA along 3-1 win-loss, 51 strike-outs and 1.43 WHIP.
Though he performed quite nicely but he was still traded to Diamondbacks. On the other hand, this is a healthy sign for the Diamondbacks as they will be feeling much stronger now.
