Arizona Diamondbacks defeat Cincinnati Reds 10-8 – MLB Update
The National League western franchise Arizona Diamondbacks overpowered league rivals Cincinnati Reds in a close 10-8 confrontation Sunday, April 10 at Chase Field in Phoenix Arizona.
The triumph advanced the Diamondbacks to 4-4 while the Reds moved to 6-3 in Major League Baseball regular season.
The Diamondbacks chasing a four-run deficit in the fifth inning thrashed the game from their opponents. Ryan Roberts designed the triumph launching 406-feet three-run homer in fifth that provided a momentum to the batters and relief to the pitchers.
Batters who were completely helpless facing the Reds’ magical bull-pen bounced back and piled-up ten game-winning runs in the eighth inning. Centre-fielder Chris Young, who was hitless for his first three at-bats, hammered a huge three-run leading grand
slam to left centre. Stephen Drew touched four hits and earned three RBI singles, assisting the Diamondbacks to win two of the last three games against the Reds.
In the eighth, Drew tied it at seven with a single and provided Young a homer. However, Young who scored the lone run last night against the same opponent after going 1-for-4 claimed that they are going to be more persistent team in the coming games. No
one can better explain the last hit, as did the manager Kirk Gibson while talking to reporters.
Gibson said, "The play of the game was the pitch before. When he fouled the little, light cutter off, got a piece of it, then he got something he could handle the next pitch and pounded it."
Kirk was not as pleased in the beginning as the starter Joe Saunders allowed run scoring walk and then received a sacrifice fly by Renteria. Saunders did not stabilise and received another RBI single to Scott Rolen that boosted the lead to 3-0. The Reds
then kept increasing the pressure adding a RBI single each in second and third inning.
The game took a dramatic turn in the fifth when the Reds lost their lead and went into a 6-5 deficit. However, the Reds struck back immediately in the seventh inning with Gomes’ 400-feet two-run homer and reversed the lead to 6-7. Then came Drew and Young
for the Diamondbacks and posted what the Reds had never expected.
Though coming from high-pressure game, Gibson seemed relaxed and expressed the determination of batters.
"We didn't give up after that even," Gibson said. "That's just how you've got to be. You never know. There is no reason ever to give in to it. It was very good for us the way we hung in there."
Young’s homer became the cause of relief for Saunders, who remained expensive in three innings permitting five runs and five walks while striking-out just one batter. He was also lucky to have Kam Mickolio as reliever since he restricted the fast going Reds
from making any run over his two-shutout innings. He made two strike-outs and finished his spell with a 4.15 ERA.
