Arizona Diamondbacks defeat Colorado Rockies 5-1 – MLB News
Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Colorado Rockies 5-1 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, May 20 at Coors Field in Denver.
The Diamondbacks took early lead in the second inning and slowly built upon it. They scored on consistent basis and eventually won the game with quite ease.
Diamondbacks’ starting pitcher, Patrick Corbin, was the main play maker, who pitched really well during the entire game. His sliders and fast balls rattled the entire Rockies upfront batting line-up. Corbin pitched
nine innings and allowed only one run on receiving three hits. He maintained his ERA at 1.44 as he struck out ten Rockies hitters as well.
"That's what you're trying to do every time you go out there, In the first inning, if they would've hopped on me there ..., I didn't want to show too much emotion, I guess, It's great. Miggy did a great job again
behind the plate," Corbin said modestly.
Late, Nolan Arenado said for Corbin, “He just pitched an unbelievable game. I don't know what else to say, Obviously, we needed to play better, but he pitched a really good game.”
On the other hand, the Rockies pitchers, especially starting pitcher Jon Garland, disappointed with his six innings’ spell. He received eleven hits and allowed five runs along with five earned runs on 5.19 ERA.
“Put your team down like that, it's terrible, I've done it my last four or five starts. I'm trying to figure it out," Garland said.
Relief pitcher Adam Ottavino pitched two innings and received three hits. Though he could not receive any run but it was too difficult for the Rockies to bounce back in the game.
Almost all the Diamondbacks hitters performed well and hammered the Rockies starter. Gerardo Parra scored one run on one hits as he maintained his slugging percentage of .492.
First baseman Paul Goldschmidt scored one run on his five at bats. He also ran for an RBI and showed good temperament with .622 slugging percentage.
Centre fielder A.J Pollock also contributed in his team’s win as he scored two important runs on his five at bats with consistent slugging percentage of .433.
