Arizona Diamondbacks defeat Houston Astros 6-3 – MLB Update
The Arizona Diamondbacks continued their winning momentum, as they overpowered the Houston Astros 6-3 in the third game of the four game series at Chase Field in Phoenix on Wednesday, August 10.
The D-backs performed from both ends of the game to clobber the Astros for the second straight day. Starter Josh Collmenter held the Astros scoreless in his first four innings and allowed only two runs in the fifth inning. He then completed his seven innings,
allowing four hits and one walk to take five batters. It was his seventh win of the season and his record improved to 7-7 with a 3.51 ERA.
"Someone will question why he deserves to be in the starting rotation still and he showed why," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said. "I was questioned after his last outing, I was asked why and that's why."
Collmenter, who gave six runs on eight hits in just over two innings in his last start against Los Angeles Dodgers on August 5, became a completely new pitcher against the Astros. He utilised his sinkers, changeups in a brilliant way.
D-backs’ short-stop Willie Bloomquist led the game off with his dazzling 410-feet long one run homer off the Astros’ starter Henry Sosa, who was making his first start at the Major League level. Paul Goldschmidt followed Willie with his line drive single
to left-field, allowing Ryan Roberts and Miguel Montero to score to take the lead to 3-0 in the first inning.
Chris Young added an RBI single in the fifth inning while Ryan Roberts scored on an error by short-stop Clint Barmes in the seventh inning to take the lead to 5-2. Then Parra scored the sixth run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Carlos Lee scored the third run of the Astros in the top of the eighth inning against Bryan Shaw. David Hernandez tossed a perfect ninth inning to get his tenth save of the 2011 regular season.
The D-backs have now won 64 games in the season and are among the top performers. There are enough chances for the D-backs to grab their third straight win against the weaker Astros side.
