Arizona Diamondbacks defeat Pittsburgh Pirates 8-5 – MLB Update
The Arizona Diamondbacks are all set for becoming National League Champions as they beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-5 on Wednesday, September 22 at Chase Field in Phoenix.
Arizona Diamondbacks’ victory has cut their number for winning the division title to only two.
The team, all the same, does not want to show immoderate enthusiasm prior to clinching what they’re dreaming for quite a while now.
"We can't celebrate until happens," said Chris Young, who had two hits and drove in a run in the third. "I'm sure a few guys will be watching the Giants tonight and tomorrow, but if we can come into the Giants' series ready and playing good baseball, we
should be able to do this."
Miguel Montero hit a homer while the Pittsburgh Pirates’ starter Russ Ohlendorf proved utterly expensive for the team. In his over two innings, the Pirates’ starter gave up seven hits with seven costly runs to the Diamondbacks.
"I felt like the ball was coming out of my hand real good and I made good pitches, and they took good swings," said Ohlendorf.
Diamondbacks starter’, Wade Miley on the other hand, gave up only two runs in his five innings spell while Ownings allowed two hits and a run.
Justin Upton scored a single while Miguel Montero went for a homer in the first inning to give the team a 3-0 lead. Miley pitched a perfect inning to maintain the lead.
Ryan Ludwick of the Pirates brought the lead down to 3-1 in the second inning with a homer while a 5-run third inning put everything in order for the Diamondbacks. Chris Young singled left, while Ryan Roberts had a two-run double with a two-run single of
Aaron Hill which made it 8-1 for the team.
Derrek Lee hit a single in the fourth and then hit a homer in the sixth to bring the lead down to 8-3 for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Andrew McCutchen scored a single in the seventh while Jason Jaramillo had a one-run double to deep left in the eighth to make
it 8-5 for the Pirates.
However, the Pirates’ hitters could not continue the blitz. J. J. Putz came in the ninth and threw a scoreless inning to conclude the game with an emphatic 8-5 victory to take the three-game series 2-1.
The Diamondbacks are having a tremendous season. They put in a brilliant performance and managed to restrict the Pirates’ offence to get a much needed win. Arizona now only needs two games to clinch the division title and head into the playoffs. It will
be interesting to see how the Diamondbacks will be able to carry on their winning momentum and get two wins before the end of the regular season.
