Arizona Diamondbacks defeat San Francisco Giants 6-1 for back-to back win –MLB Update
Arizona Diamondbacks is becoming a real threat for rivals as they have overpowered the San Francisco Giants for a second straight night of three-game series at AT&T Park in San Francisco on August 2 to extend their winning streak to four games.
Although the D-backs starter went after the Giants’ Pablo Sandoval added an RBI single in the fourth inning of the game, they managed to express their best hitting. Paul Goldschmidt blistered a spectacular two-run homer off the Giants’ starter Tim Lincecum
in the top of the seventh inning to take his team into 2-1 from 0-1.
Right-fielder Justin Upton then launched a striking homer off the Giants’ relief pitcher Ramon Ramirez, who took the ball from Lincecum in the eighth inning. The game was 4-1 when left-fielder Gerardo Parra reached on infield single to short-stop, allowing
Ryan Roberts and Goldschmidt to score against the Giants’ closer Javier Lopez.
The homer Goldschmidt launched was his first of his career. His manager Kirk Gibson was impressed the way rookie launched a two-run shot off one of the toughest pitchers in MLB.
"To come up here in this environment and do what he's done is a huge lift for us," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said. "He's become part of our team. You have to be awed by it. He's shown great character by the way he's controlled his emotions."
Kirk had another crushing performance from David Hudson, who allowed only one run on six hits, while striking-out five batters over eight innings to grab his eleventh win of the 2011 regular season. Closer Bryan Shaw also provided scoreless back up to Hudson
to take Arizona to their 61st game of the season. It was the D-backs eighth win in the last ten games.
Lincecum on the other hand was in great shock to get a drizzling hit by a rookie player. However, he was happy with his overall spell.
"I lost it there for a while," Lincecum said. "But overall, with the exception of that one pitch, I thought I pitched pretty good."
It was his ninth loss that sent him to a 9-9 record with 2.77 ERA in 23 starts.
