Arizona Diamondbacks defeat San Francisco Giants 6-5 – MLB Update
The Arizona Diamondbacks put in an amazing performance to defeat the San Francisco Giants 6-5 at Chase Field, Phoenix on Sunday, April 17.
The Diamondbacks won on Sunday night as Conor Jackson broke the tie and scored a run on a wild pitch in the eighth inning with two outs. This gave the Arizona Diamondbacks a victory over the San Francisco Giants.
Mark Reynolds it his 100th home-run during the match and had three RBIs to go with that. Two more runs were driven in by Stephen Drew for Arizona.
The winning run was scored by Reynolds who was at bat facing Jeremy Affeldt, as he pitched the ball which was well short of the plate and allowed the game changing score.
For the Giants, Aubrey Huff scored two RBIs and Juan Uribe and John Bowker each hit home-runs.
One and two-third hitless innings were pitched by Aaron Heilman but he did allow the tying run in the ninth innings as he walked Matt Downs, the pinch-hitter.
Chad Qualls got his seventh save in ten attempts as he struck-out Uribe.
The Giants almost got the eighth batter out, as Adam LaRoche grounded and it looked like it was going to be a double play but because of Uribe’s delay due to fumbling the ball the Giants managed to get only one out.
Jackson who started the innings with a double moved to third base on the play.
Tim Lincecum failed to shine or prove himself as one of the best pitchers around as he gave up five runs and five hits within the duration of five innings. This comes as a far cry from his previous performances. In his eight starts since the season began
he had at least six innings in each match and hadn’t given up more than three runs. The current National League leader in strike-outs brought his grand total to 75 after fanning six but this was the second time he walked five players.
Lincecum struck out Reynolds twice and that gave him 12-in-18 career at-bats. Reynolds got his chance against Tim in the fifth inning as he launched a two run homer to the left side of the field against the two time Cy Young winner. This run gave the Diamondbacks
a 5-2 lead.
The Giants had their come-back in the sixth inning as they scored five runs which ultimately gave them a lead over Arizona. Uribe and Bowker hit one home run after another and Huff closed the inning with a double that earned the Giants two runs.
Arizona played a tremendous game, as they worked hard in the field to put pressure on the Giants. San Francisco put in a decent performance, but it was not enough for a win.
