Arizona Diamondbacks defeat Washington Nationals 2-0 – MLB Update
The Arizona Diamondbacks put an end to their six-game losing streak on Tuesday, August 23 as they beat the Washington Nationals 2-0 At Nationals Park.
The Diamondbacks entered into the game with renewed energy and confidence to edge past the Washington Nationals.
Diamondbacks had to rely on both their offence and defence combination to get the desired result. The strategy worked out as Sean Burroughs hit a two-run homer coupled with an equally decisive role of Ian Kennedy who went for seven shut-out innings to win
the game.
Of crucial importance, however, was Burroughs hit that brought the team a leading edge in the game. "Was basically looking dead red fastball, get out in front," Burroughs said. "I wasn't trying to hit a home run. I obviously never do."
However, the most frustrating of moments seized Jordan Zimmerman who allowed the homer in the seventh inning that changed the tide of the game.
Zimmerman was asked if he felt frustrated: "Definitely frustrating," Zimmermann said. "It's happened a couple of times this year where it's just one pitch at the end of the game. It's a home run or a double or something and they get a couple of runs."
Ian Kennedy pitched seven innings, gave up six hits and did not allow any run to the Washington Nationals compared to that of Zimmerman’s 6.1 innings resulted in five hits and two runs with a 3.10 ERA. The Arizona Diamondbacks were assisted in their win
by David Hernandez and J. J. Putz.
Jordan Zimmerman started the game with force, not allowing any runs in the first followed by that of Ian Kennedy who also tossed some effective pitches to contain the Washington Nationals’ hitters. While both the starters had complete sway in the game, it
was in the seventh that the game took a turn.
Sean Burroughs homered in the seventh inning when Jordan Zimmerman came to pitch the seventh as the game had remained scoreless. The 2-hit two run seventh inning gave the Arizona Diamondbacks a 2-0 lead.
Zimmerman has played 25 games this season with 157 innings pitched, winning only 8 and losing 11 with 3.10 ERA, having struck-out 118 hitters and allowing 59 runs in the 148 hits he gave up.
A lead that Ian Kennedy maintained with his strong spell while David Hernandez also tossed effective pitches to keep Arizona in charge of the game. J. J Putz was tasked with throwing the last inning as a closer.
Putz did not allow any hits or any runs to turn the lead into a 2-0 victory, winning the first-game in the four-game series after losing the first encounter by 4-1.
