Arizona Diamondbacks ease past Milwaukee Brewers 14-3 – MLB Spring Training
Arizona Diamondbacks eased past Milwaukee Brewers 14-3 at the Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona on Wednesday, April 4 in their Cactus League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
For the Brewers, Corey Hart made a strong comeback from his knee injury as he hit a towering home run but the Brewers suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Arizona.
With Prince Fielder joining Detroit Tigers, there will be great pressure on Brewers’ battling lineup in the upcoming regular season. Starter Shaun Marcum went for five earned runs and seven hits in just over four innings.
"I wanted to get my pitch count up," Marcum said. "I wasn't really focused on results or anything like that. It was more getting the pitch count up and making some quality pitches. I was able to do that."
Shortstop Willie Bloomquist produced a match winning performance for the Diamondbacks as he hit a home run and doubled. He drove in three runs and also stole two bases in Diamondbacks’ final outing of this spring. Bloomquist is expected to replace injured
Stephen Drew this season.
Chris Young also played key role as he drove in three runs for his team and former Diamondbacks’ third base coach’s son Jake Williams added a two run double to make the job simpler for Arizona. Joe Saunders gave up just three runs in five innings with
five strikeouts and a walk.
"I am not worrying about the stats part of it, I just want to feel good," Bloomquist said. "I want to feel like myself in the box. Whether I am getting results or not, during spring training I could care less."
The win will be of great importance for the Diamondbacks who have struggled to make the most of available opportunities this spring. With 15 wins and 18 losses since the start of 2012 Spring Training, the Diamondbacks have not been able to live up to the
hype surrounding them.
However, nothing has been lost as yet. If the Diamondbacks can bring more consistency in their game play, they can certainly create problems for other top teams in MLB during the regular season.
