Arizona Diamondbacks edge New York Mets 5-4 – MLB Update
Arizona Diamondbacks edged New York Mets 5-4 at the Citi Field in New York, NY in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. With their win on Friday, May 4 against the Mets, the Diamondbacks have also
improved their win-loss record to 14-13.
"It stinks tonight to let those guys down," Mets’ starting pitcher Jon Rauch said after losing his first start of the season. "We expect to go out and do our job every time. I personally can't come in and let guys score."
Cody Ransom homered to the left centre in the second inning to give Arizona 1-0 lead but the Mets bounced back strongly in the following inning. Scott Hairston, Daniel Murphy and Andre Torres made the most of scoring opportunities to put New York 4-2 ahead
in the third. Ransom singled to centre in the eighth to help the Diamondbacks secure a thriller.
The shortstop was sent to the Triple A league after having a poor season last year so he will be looking to cement his place in the team this season.
"Confidence is probably a big part of it, knowing that I can play here and actually believing it," Ransom said.
"He's got pop," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said. "I hope he keeps it going."

The running series will be of great importance for both teams as it can provide them with the winning momentum before the All Star break. The Diamondbacks has shown throughout the season that they have enough firepower and depth in their offence and bullpen
to beat even the best in business.
For Arizona, it will be question of executing their strategies to perfection if they want to progress to the post season. With momentum on their side, the Diamondbacks are certainly the favourites to win this series but the Mets are also capable of fight
back in the next game. It will be exciting to see which one of these two teams emerge victorious in the second game.
