Arizona Diamondbacks edge Oakland Athletics 4-3 – MLB Recap
The Arizona Diamondbacks edge past the Oakland Athletics 4-3 in the third and final game of the three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, June 10 at Chase Field in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The Athletics lost all three games and never showed any fighting spirit during the entire series.
Coming into this particular game, the Diamondbacks came to Chase Field with big energy and showed the A’s their offensive prowess which easily gave them three straight wins.
Joe Saunders played enormously well for the Diamondbacks and gave only two runs. His six innings’ spell prevented the A’s to score comfortably instead; his pitching barred the A’s to score beyond three runs. He received seven hits and only one run and did
able to maintain 3.48 ERA.
"It's definitely nice to get the sweep here, We haven't played very well at home this year, so it's nice to turn the page on that and give the fans a chance to have something to cheer about." Saunders said on his performance which gave his team series deciders
win.
Later Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said, "The play of the game for me was Chris Young tagging up, One out and generally you're not going to tag up on that play, but he recognized what was going on. He surprised (center fielder Collin) Cowgill a little bit."
On the other hand, the A’s starter Travis Blackley did not play well and gave too much runs which eventually helped the Diamondbacks to wrap-up the game early.
He gave four runs along with six hits and three earned runs. He only struck out two and could not sustain his 3.98 ERA.
In this particular win, not only pitchers, the Diamondbacks batting offence also played a key role. Their entire roster remained confident and batted with sheer confidence.
Especially centre fielder Chris Young made two runs and in his four at bats and gave the Diamondbacks’ favourable position in the game.
After three runs’ lead in the very first inning, the Diamondbacks never gave any chance to their opponents to dominate the game and eventually won in the end.
