Arizona Diamondbacks edge past San Diego Padres 6-5 – MLB Recap
Arizona Diamondbacks edge past the San Diego Padres 6-5 in the third game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, May 26 at Chase Field in Phoenix.
The Diamondbacks batters and pitchers played beautifully and helped their team win the decisive game of the series. Before this particular game, the series was levelled 1-1 in which San Diego had a great win of 10-4 as well.
“The thing about Patrick is he kept his composure, This was a total contrast to the last game he pitched and he kept grinding it out,” Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said.
Diamondbacks starting pitcher Patrick Corbin played a key role in his team’s win. He tossed six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits. He allowed three earned runs along with one homer but he still managed to lead his towards an easy win. He struck
out five Padres hitters on his consistent 1.71 ERA.
“They were laying off some good pitches, I didn't have my best stuff, but I wanted to go out there and battle them,” Corbin said.
Later Padres manager Bud Black said, “Corbin, you can see why his stats are what they are, That is a live left arm, it really is. A live fastball, good slider and occasionally a solid changeup. We put some stress on him, we did. We had some good swings but
he is a good pitcher.”
Relief pitcher Brad Ziegler pitched 1.2 innings and allowed one run on two hits. He also allowed one earned run on 2.63 ERA.
Along with pitchers, the Diamondbacks batters also played wonderfully and hammered hard all the Padres pitchers.
First baseman Paul Goldschmidt scored one run on one hit. He came to bat two times as his slugging percentage remained consistent at .597.
Third baseman Eric Chavez scored one run and ran for two RBIs. He played confidently and maintained his slugging percentage at .604.
On the other hand, the Padres could not play their natural game and lost bitterly in the end. Their batters and pitchers remained under pressure during the entire game.
Jason Marquis started the game for the Padres. He pitched 3.1 innings and allowed four runs on seven hits. He also allowed four earned runs which proved one of the losing factors for the San Diego Padres.
