Arizona Diamondbacks edge past Washington Nationals 5-1 – Major League Recap
The Washington Nationals’ miserable time continues as they received yet another 5-1 thumping, but this time from the National League West second place Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday, May 1 at Nationals Park, Washington.
The only run scored by the Nationals was from short stop Ian Desmond with the help of power hitter Roger Bernadina.
The Diamondbacks starting pitcher Trevor Cahill proved his place with some of the very best performances allowing no Washington player to hit him freely.
Trevor’s 2-2 record further improved as a starter while his pitching was quite accurate as he finished allowing one run along with six hits and striking out five Nationals’ batters.
“We kind of build on one another," Cahill said. "Hitters say hitting's contagious. Maybe pitching's contagious, too. ... After the first month you kind of get into a groove, and when everyone's throwing like they are, you kind of build off one another. So it helps out a lot. I think I made more quality pitches than any other start, I felt good. It's just too bad I couldn't continue and get deeper in the game."
Later team manager Kirk Gibson also appreciated the way Cahill pitched. He said, "It's the best he's thrown for us."
This was Nationals’ fifth straight defeat. Prior to this particular hammering, the Washington side have lost the three match regular series from the Los Angeles Dodgers as well.
The Nationals manager Davey Johnson is also worried over his team’s late performances, but his recent statement which he gave after the defeat, somewhat explains the very idea of his own ideology of battling out until the last  moment. He looked pretty sure and stated with energy that his team is quite young and at the same time very talented. He further added, that this is just start of the season as they season gets more heated in the coming days, his team certainly will bounce back.
In the meanwhile, the Arizona Diamondbacks are looking to take advantage from the Nationals’ poor form and hoping to give them a clean sheet defeating them rest of the two games as well.
