Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Lyle Overbay adjusts well in the roster – MLB News
The Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Lyle Overbay is adjusting well in the roster after spending a relatively good time in 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training.
Though last season he was included in active roster and played handsomely well proving his place in the team, however this time around, he has started new season as a bench player.
Since coming into the season, he has started two games so far. He played his second game against San Diego Padres last Thursday night, but could not do well, but the game against the San Francisco Giants which was his first game of the season and proved wonderful for him. He played brilliantly getting an exceptional home run, two doubles at four at bats.
Overbay said. "I go to the ballpark every day ready to play, obviously, if there's a lefty on the mound, I'm probably not going to be in there. But my mentality is still that I'm coming to the ballpark to do my work and be ready."
Diamondbacks' manager Kirk Gibson seems also very optimistic about Overbay as he is also trying hard to adjust in the team as an active roster player. Overbay, who has said in the past for Gibson, "You know you're going to play, He's going to match you up. He's going to put you in spots to succeed."
Recently, Overbay stated in media about his level of preparations and his expectations for 2012 MLB season.
He said, “Early in spring training I had a long swing, I wasn't necessarily (standing) straight up. Usually I'm staying tall in the top half, and those were things that resulted in me feeling even worse.”
This is a good sign for the Diamondbacks as Overbuy is feeling well and excited about this season. He has almost eleven years of experience and played with several teams in the League. Overbay started his Major League career from the Diamondbacks’ platform and later went on to play for Milwaukee Brewers, Toronto Blue Jays and Pittsburgh Pirates.
