Arizona Diamondbacks hammered by Texas Rangers 1-9 – MLB Recap
The Arizona Diamondbacks hammered by the Texas Rangers 1-9 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, June 12 at Rangers Ballpark in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The Diamondbacks played poorly from start of the game and rallied by the Rangers’ offence until defeat.
Diamondbacks batters were certainly outplayed by the Rangers’ pitchers especially starter Colby Lewis kept his opposing team under pressure and eventually won it with style.
"You want to go out there and continue to throw up innings and try to save the bullpen," Lewis said. "With Alexi going down, that's a big blow, but we've got guys coming up that can handle that for us. It's one of those things you've got to do."
Lewis pitched entire nine innings and remained calm on the mound. He allowed only one in four hits. Striking out seven Diamondbacks batters, he also remained 3.13 ERA.
"We certainly needed everything he gave us to save the bullpen," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "He was very efficient tonight, down in the zone, spotting his fastball, his changeup. He didn't make many mistakes and he certainly gave us an outing we
needed."
On the other hand, the Diamondbacks’ starter Ian Kennedy could not play his natural game and lost the game for his team. He was hit by six runs and six hits in his 5.2 innings.
The Texas Rangers’ played as one unit and their combined play was the only way they slowly but intelligently edge past the Diamondbacks.
Rangers’ designated hitter Michael Young made two important runs along with two hits to oust the Diamondbacks in the ninth.
Right fielder David Murphy also made go ahead two RBIs and proved helpful in the Rangers win.
By winning this game, the Rangers, also snapped the Diamondbacks’ five-game winning streak.
Texas, with this win now holds the top position in the 36-26 win-loss record along with .581 winning percentage.
At the moment their chances are high to qualify for the post season but according to some experts they need to bring their winning percentage around .600 which will certainly ensure their spot in the playoffs.
