Arizona Diamondbacks humiliated by Cincinnati Reds 0-4 – MLB Recap
The Arizona Diamondbacks were shut-out by the Cincinnati Reds 0-4 in the second game of their four-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, July 17 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
Diamondbacks played poorly and lost in the end. They did not show any fighting spirit as they could not even score a single run during the game.
Not only the batters but the Diamondbacks’ pitchers also did not show their natural game and could not save the team from humiliation.
Though, Arizona side won the first game of the series but the way the Reds bounced back into the series with a comprehensive win is certainly commendable.
Reds’ defence remained solid in the entire game as they kept the Diamondbacks’ under pressure and never gave them any chance to dominate.
Cincinnati, who was coming into this particular series with huge confidence after defeating the 2011 World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals, again performed tremendously and won a deserving victory.
The entire Reds’ roster played a combined game and gave a humiliating 3-0 series defeat to the Cardinals.
In Tuesday’s game, the Reds continued their aggressive style and started a great run early in the game.
Going into lead in the very first innings, the Reds soon got a commanding position in the third inning.
They were ahead four runs while the Reds’ pitchers never let the Diamondbacks’ hitters to score even a single run and eventually won the game with style.
"It was a struggle, a battle," Reds’ manager Dusty Baker said. "We're going to have quite a few battle-type games without Joey on the offense. And the finger bothered him some, It didn't open up to bleed, but the skin came off of it a little bit. He got
out of trouble, and that's the mark of a good pitcher. He can dial it up when he wants to and needs to, and he did."
The Reds’ starter Johnny Cueto played wonderfully and earned a great victory for his team.
Cueto said, "It was better, I felt it a little bit, though.”
He pitched six innings and received four hits without giving up any runs. He retired three batters as his ERA remained consistent at 2.28.
