On Monday’s game, the Diamondbacks once again lost the early control and received a heavy hammering in the end.
Their entire roster looked tired in the field and did not play natural and aggressive which caused them heavily as they suffered an embarrassing defeat.
"He pitched exceptional tonight, He pitched to four spots, he got the ball inside, he mixed in his breaking ball for strikes, he got it for chase, he worked with a very good tempo rhythm tonight. You can't pitch much better than that. We broke out an old fashioned baseball game today: Pitching defense, we had one run, we added on a little bit late," Pirates' manager Clint Hurdle said of his team and his starter’s performance which certainly proved wonderful for them.
Diamondbacks’ hitters and pitchers never showed any fighting spirit and lost the game in the end. They played under pressure and did not even score a single run.
Especially their pitchers played poorly as they all smashed with big hits and allowed four runs.
Wade Miley started the game for the Diamondbacks and allowed six hits in his six innings spell.
"I felt all right, I kind of got into some trouble and had to battle a little bit ... I wasn't executing, but we were able to keep it to one, so it wasn't bad," Miley said on his performance.
He allowed one run and was only able to strike-out two Pirates’ batters on his 2.85 ERA.
Later relief pitcher Brad Ziegler came to pitch as he was hit with two runs and two earned runs on his 2.74 ERA.
Closer Mike Zagurski could have played much better but he also suffered some heavy blows from the Pirates' hitters on his blistering 5.13 ERA.
