Arizona Diamondbacks look to improve pitching – MLB Update
The Arizona Diamondbacks with an averaged result last season still improved a lot on their dire pitching. They started poorly in the 2012 Major League Baseball season but during the middle stages; their aggressive pitching helped them get back on the right track.
However, as soon as they started playing against slightly tougher teams, their pitching started showing loop-holes and they lost back-to-back games. On the other hand, the Diamondbacks’ are now unfolding some of their hidden offseason strategies to bring several new faces in the franchise as they will be responsible to improve their pitching offence.
Recently the Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers has attended Major League Baseball’s annual Winter Meetings and has expressed in the media that the Diamondbacks’ pitching offence will be potentially unbreakable in the coming season.
“You look at the rest of the division, especially teams that finished in front of us were more experienced, more veteran-type clubs, You win with pitching, It would have to be the right guy at the top of the rotation that we think is a difference-maker on our ball club if we’re going to take away innings from our young guys,” Towers said.
“I would say it's no different than it has been, We still value him a great deal; we like him a great deal. People continue to ask about him and we still haven't made a deal," Towers said when asked about Upton trade talks.
According to recent report, the Diamondbacks’ management is interested in free agent Brandon McCarthy, who last played with the Oakland Athletics. He finished with 3.24 ERA along with 8-6 win-loss 73 strike-outs and 1.25 WHIP.
This is still a speculation that McCarthy is linked with Diamondbacks, but if these rumours turned out to be true, this will be a healthy sign for the both sides to start a new beginning with a new focus.
Along adding some more pitchers, the Diamondbacks are also dealing with Justin Upton’s free agency. Upton last played for the Diamondbacks with .280 hitting average along with 17 home-runs, 67 RBIs and .355 OBP.
