Arizona Diamondbacks lose to Chicago Cubs 1-3 – MLB Recap
The Arizona Diamondbacks lost to Chicago Cubs 1-3 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, July 15 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
Diamondbacks’ played poor from start of the game and paid the price for their sluggishness. The entire roster looked disoriented and never showed any fighting spirit against the Cubs.
Not only their pitchers played poorly but their batting lineup also could only score a single run and eventually lost bitterly.
Diamondbacks’ starter Trevor Cahill was hit with three runs and four hits along with three earned runs and a homer. He was only able to strike-out three as his ERA remained at 3.71.
Cahill discussed his performance and said, "It was just a slider, I threw it as a kind of a chase pitch, It backed up on the inner half. You usually don't want to try to throw a slider on the inside part of the plate to a righty. It just kind of backed up."
On the other hand, starter Matt Garza played wonderfully and literally won the game for the Cubs. He remained confident on the mound and tossed some exceptional deliveries.
He tossed seven innings and finished scoreless on five hits. He also struck-out seven as his ERA remained consistent at 4.02.
Garza said, "I felt good today, I was able to stay in my mechanics today, and when I didn't I was able to catch myself and adjust quick."
Garza added, "You don't want to be that guy, So you just keep going and keep pounding and keep pounding strikes.”
Overall the game was played at a high pace but still the Cubs’ made out better from it. They went early into the lead and kept the Diamondbacks under pressure throughout the game.
Cubs’ started well and scored a quick run in the first inning while in the very next inning, the Chicago side kept their thrust and never let the Diamondbacks dominate the game.
Their pitchers handcuffed the Diamondbacks’ offence and won the game. The Cubs will be happy with their performance as they are looking to build up some confidence in their club and this win definitely helps.
