Arizona Diamondbacks lose to Cincinnati Reds 2-6 – MLB Recap
The Arizona Diamondbacks lost to Cincinnati Reds 2-6 in the third game and last game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, August 29 at Chase Field in Phoenix.
With this win, the Reds have also won the three-match series 3-0.
“We struck in a hurry. Had some guys hit some long balls ... and Latos pitched great, Other than that balk in the first inning, he pitched outstanding, he hit well, too," Reds' manager Dusty Baker said.
Chris Heisey's two homers provided a decent win for the Reds. Overall he also scored two runs and two hits. He remained calm and added three RBIs as well on his consistent .426 slugging percentage.
Along with Heisey, centre fielder Drew Stubbs also played well for the Reds and scored one and smashed one hit on his five at-bats.
Second baseman Brandon Phillips scored one run and provided a smooth beginning to the Reds which later proved fruitful for them as they ousted the Diamondbacks with ease.
"It feels good to win, When I hit it, I was like 'Please get up, please get up,' but I didn't think it was going to be like that, I did some pushups night I was like 'Maybe pushups really work,'” Phillips said.
Todd Frazier with one score strengthened the Reds position as he also maintained his slugging percentage at .554.
Along with their batters, the Reds’ pitchers also performed well and rattled the Diamondbacks with great focus.
Starter Mat Latos pitched seven innings and received two runs and five hits. He struck-out seven and maintained his ERA at 3.79.
"We know that we have to continue to win ballgames. As long as we can win the series, we've got a good chance of going somewhere," Latos said.
On the other hand, Diamondbacks did not play well and lost the game with bitter humiliation. Their experienced and talented players disappointed with poor batting and pitching.
Diamondbacks' starter Patrick Corbin pitched 6.2 innings and allowed three runs on six hits. Though he retired eight Diamondbacks’ batters on his 3.93 ERA but still he could not save the game for his team.
