Arizona Diamondbacks lose to Cincinnati Reds 6-7 – MLB Recap
The Arizona Diamondbacks lost to Cincinnati Reds 6-7 in the final game of their four-match regular series encounter on Thursday, July 19 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
The Diamondback played poorly and lost the game. They did not show any fighting spirit and received a humiliating defeat from the Reds.
Diamondbacks’ who were coming into this series with a 3-0 defeat from the Chicago Cubs, again could not do much and was unable to play their natural game.
Though the four-game series ended 2-2 but still the Diamondbacks performance looked quite poor.
In Thursday’s game, they could have won the game down the stretch in the seventh inning as the Diamondbacks’ pitchers gave up four quick runs which proved disastrous as the Reds powered past their opponents with style.
Second baseman Brandon Phillips scored a go-ahead run while later his late push earned the Reds three more runs in the seventh and gave them a decent win against the Diamondbacks.
Team manager Dusty Baker said, "Brandon can hit all over the order, He's the only guy we've got who can do that. It shows us what we can do without Joey. You've just got to keep doing what you can do."
Diamondbacks’ starter Joe Saunders was the main reason why the Reds took an early lead. He pitched six innings and received three runs and three earned runs while his ERA remained at 3.58.
He was too way-ward and did not play his aggressive game which eventually proved disastrous for the Diamondbacks.
Saunders commented on his performance and said, "I ran into a little trouble in the sixth -- a couple of soft hits, I made a good pitch to Phillips. I don't know how he kept it fair. Maybe he was cheating in a little bit. You've just got to tip your cap
and move on. It's a shame we couldn't close it out and win the series."
Relief pitcher Bryan Shaw also pitched poorly. In his 0.1 innings’ spell, he gave four crucial runs two earned runs and lost the game for the Diamondbacks. The Reds will be happy with their performance as it looks like they are starting to build up some
much needed confidence in their line-up.
