Arizona Diamondbacks lose to New York Mets 1-5 – MLB Recap
The Arizona Diamondbacks lost to New York Mets 1-5 in the fourth and final game of their four-match regular series encounter on Sunday, July 29 at Chase Field in Phoenix.
Diamondbacks’ could have won this particular game, but with their poor defensive approach, they lost with bitter humiliation.
They pitched poorly and gave enough loop holes to the Mets as they scored five runs in quick successions which proved disastrous for the Diamondbacks’ as they lost with a four run gap.
On the other hand, the Mets’ played as one unit and proved the better team on that particular evening.
Their pitchers along with hitters played aggressive from start of the play and eventually won in the end.
Pitcher R.A. Dickey played exceptionally well and earned a great victory for the Mets. He tossed seven solid innings and allowed only one run on four hits.
He remained calm on the mound for his seven innings’ spell and struck out eight potential Diamondbacks’ hitters.
"It kind of comes and goes, I had, surprisingly, a good knuckler from the beginning. I just kept telling myself to stick with it because it was pretty good," Dickey said.
Later Mets manager Terry Collins said, "He was the R.A. Dickey we saw in the first half. We will take the split, They have a good team and were playing very, very well before we got here. We'll take it and move on."
On the other hand, the Diamondbacks’ starter Joe Saunders played really poor and literally lost the game for his team. He pitched seven innings and allowed four runs and eight hits along with four earned runs. Though he struck out three but his ERA rose
to 3.62.
"It would have been nice to win the series, but we ran into a brick wall in Dickey, It's a matter of putting balls in play, and we couldn't put any balls in play with any authority," Saunders said.
Diamondbacks’ closer Brad Bergesen also could not play well and was hammered with one run and two hits along with one earned run as he struck only one Mets’ hitter.
