Arizona Diamondbacks lose to Philadelphia Phillies 2-7 – MLB Recap
The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-2 in their decisive third-game of ongoing regular series matchup in 2012 Major League Baseball season on Wednesday, April 25 at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Phillies starting pitcher Cole Hamels played tremendously throughout eight innings giving away only two runs in his team’s second successive win over Arizona.
"When you give us some runs you want to put up some zeros right away, That's what I was able to do. When you're about to go out there and just plug away, have some quick at-bats, you do get into a comfortable rhythm, You want to go out there and have great inning after great inning." said Hamels.
Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said for his pitcher, "In the seventh, he got into some trouble but he got out of it, It looked like he lost his command there for a while but he got it back. We're going home 5 and 5, which is better than 4 and 6.”
Cole Hamels was the main difference in both team’s final result as he pitched accurate throughout eight innings giving up a leadoff double and later retired 18 Diamondbacks batters along with four hits, a walk, seven strikeouts and an error in the bottom seventh innings.
From start of the game until it ended, the Phillies never gave any chance to the Diamondbacks and took the game away with big margin.
Right fielder Hunter Pence and Placido Polanco started pushing the Phillies’ score tally in the very first innings. Later in the sixth innings, Juan Pierre and Polanco scored another two runs giving their team 3-0 lead.
The Phillies kept the pressure on the Diamondbacks in the bottom sixth and scored another three runs with the help of Carlos Ruiz, Ty Wigginton and short stop Freddy Galvis.
The Diamondbacks did try to bounce back in the seventh innings when left fielder Jason Kubel, Aaron Hill and right fielder Justin Upton scored first run of their side. Later first base Paul Goldschmidt and Jason Kubel again collaborated for a run, but the Philadelphia Phillies with seventh decisive run, took the game away as well as the series.
