Arizona Diamondbacks lose to San Francisco Giants 8-9 – MLB Recap
The Arizona Diamondbacks lost to San Francisco Giants 8-9 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, September 3 at AT&T Park in San Francisco.
"Tremendous comeback, It's a little different in September, there's no getting around it," Giants' manager Bruce Bochy said.
Though the Giants won with a one-run advantage but overall it was a well fought game on both ends.
"He said, 'Take it easy. I'll protect you, That's a lot of protection,'" Scutaro said.
"That's probably one of the best wins, if not the best win of the year," Posey said.
Both teams played aggressive and gave tough to each other’s offence. Diamondbacks’ upfront batting line-up contributed but still it was Giants’ fate who rattled their opponents with a narrow margin.
Centre fielder Angel Pagan added one run on his six at-bats as he maintained his slugging percentage at .435.
Third baseman Marco Scutaro scored two runs and smashed three hits along with one RBI on his .379 RBI.
Pablo Sandoval also played well and earned a great victory for his team. He remained calm on the plate and added one run and smashed three hits along with an RBI on his .446 slugging percentage.
"I got beat. I didn't make a pitch when I needed to, bottom line, It was a (expletive) pitch to Scutaro to start the inning. That's not the way you want to start," Putz said.
Not only batters, but the Giants' pitchers also played well and won a decent first victory of the series.
Barry Zito started the game for the Giants and remained calm on the mound for five innings. He pitched five innings and received four runs on seven hits. He received a homer while he struck-out six potential Diamondbacks’ hitters on his 4.15 ERA.
"That's in the bonus column right there, It's those ones that really make the difference when the year is over," Zito said.
Guillermo Mota also played well for the Giants as he went for three runs and two hits on his consistent 6.75 ERA. He also struck-out one batter and proved one of the winning factors for the Giants.
