Arizona Diamondbacks re-sign Henry Blanco for 2012 season – MLB News
Since the Arizona Diamondbacks has come out of the humiliation of the last two years and the club is now a National League West Champions, the confidence of the front office over their players and the managers has reached a peak.
To justify it, the team officials confirmed that after extending the contracts of the General Manager Kevin Towers and manager Kirk Gibson, the club now has resigned the catcher Henry Blanco for one more season.
According to the sources familiar with the deal has confirmed that Arizona Diamondbacks has recalled the catcher for one more season and it will allow a right-hander to stay in the club until the end of 2012. The agreement has been made on Thursday but the
information was provided on Friday.
According to the parameters of the deal, Blanco will get $1.25 million for the next year. Both sides have also agreed on a mutual option of $1.25 million for 2013 with a $250,000 buyout. The sources further disclosed that the catcher had declined the $1.12
million option for 2012 offered by the team management on Tuesday. They made him surrender his $250,000 buyout.
Henry played 37 games this last season and hammered eight home-runs along with 12 RBIs with a .250 batting average. In most of the game in this season, the right-hander got only one at-bat chance. His participation however at the back of the plate was commanding.
The 40-year-old is considered the ideal catcher for the young All-Star catcher Miguel Montero.
Before resigning with Blanco, team management extended their contracts with General Manager Kevin Towers and Kirk Gibson on Thursday, but was reported on Friday. The D-backs front office has a firm belief that the club’s comeback after getting down more
than 90 games in two consecutive seasons was attributed with the efficient management of both these managers.
Kirk Gibson, an ex-Arizona player, is ready-to-do person, who loves to be a part of his home club. Towers, who was given this job before the start of 2011 season, was pleased on his performance. Arizona Diamondbacks lost to the Milwaukee Brewers in the American
League Divisional Series, but they had achieved what was required after two humiliating seasons.
