Arizona Diamondbacks rout Pittsburgh Pirates 10-4 – MLB Recap
The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-4 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, August 7 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
Diamondbacks’ played offensive from start of the game and earned a great victory in the end. They played beautifully throughout the game and did not give any chance to their opponents to take control at any point of play which eventually proved wonderful them as they humiliated the Pirates in great fashion.
“Sometimes that under-the-radar stuff really works out, He's been great. We knew we were getting a good player when he came here, he's just done a great job. He's a big, strong guy. I didn't realize that until now," outfielder Jason Kubel said.
Later Diamondbacks' manager Kirk Gibson said, "The double play was the play of the game, It gave us a chance to win.”
Diamondbacks’ top upfront offence played sensibly and showed no loop-holes in their game instead they kept the Pirates under pressure and proved too good for them.
Arizona's hitters and pitchers remained their calm and played with full thrust. Rattling their opponents with ease, the Diamondbacks’ also showed their dominance in all areas of play.
On the other hand, the Pirates who had won the previous game from the Diamondbacks could not do much in this particular game and were hammered with huge hits.
“You never like it to happen, we haven't seen it before this season. That's a good lineup over there; the last six outs were very difficult to get," manager Clint Hurdle said.
Their pitchers and hitters did not play their natural and aggressive game which eventually proved one of the losing factors for their team.
Especially starter Jeff Karstens, relief pitcher Jason Grilli and closer Jared Hughes combined gave ten runs.
Karstens pitched three runs and eight hits in his six innings spell while his ERA rose to 3.77.
"I just couldn't make the pitches when I needed them, it could have been a lot worse," said Karstens.
Reliever Grilli was hit with four runs and four earned runs while closing pitcher Hughes also allowed three runs on his 2.52 ERA.
