Arizona Diamondbacks rout Pittsburgh Pirates 6-3 – MLB Recap
The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-3 in the fourth and final game of their four-match regular series encounter on Thursday, August 9 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
Diamondbacks went early into a two run lead and put their opponents under pressure. Second baseman Aaron Hill provided his team with significant two runs on his five at-bats.
In-fact the Diamondbacks’ entire batting line-up looked sharp in the field. They batted well and never gave any chance to the Pirates’ pitchers to take advantage of any situation.
Not only Hill but left fielder Jason Kubel also contributed in his team’s decent victory over the Pirates. He scored two runs and smashed two hits while added four RBIs on his .556 slugging percentage.
"It started great and ended on a good note," Kubel said. "We let a couple of games slip by us, but at 6-4, we really can't complain. We're moving in the right direction."
Third baseman Chris Johnson smashed two hits and earned a single run. Along with batters, the Diamondbacks’ pitchers also performed tremendously and never gave any chance to their opponents to score freely. Instead they kept them under pressure and eventually
won the game in style.
Joe Saunders pitched seven solid innings and allowed three runs and seven hits. He looked sharp on the mound and retired three Pirates’ batters on his 3.52 ERA.
“The second inning was not much fun," Saunders said. "I was making pretty good pitches. They were still finding holes. I just kept telling myself, 'Hey, keep making good pitches and keep pounding the strike zone and it's going to start going your way.' I'm
going to try to stay as positive as I could."
Relief pitcher David Hernandez also played well and supported his team-mate starter Saunders with his one inning’s spell on which he received only one hit and retired one batter as his ERA also remained consistent at 2.57.
On the other hand, Pirates’ starter Wandy Rodriguez certainly lost the game for his team. He pitched six waivered innings and allowed four runs and seven hits along with two homers.
