Arizona Diamondbacks rout Seattle Mariners 7-1 – MLB Recap
The Arizona Diamondbacks comprehensively defeated the Seattle Mariners 7-1 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter at Chase Field in 2012 Major League Baseball season and gained the early psychological advantage in the series.
The entire Diamondbacks’ roster looked confident throughout the game. They had recently lost to the Los Angeles Angels but came to this game with only one aim to oust the Mariners in order to stay in the post season qualification race.
Second baseman Aaron Hill hit a cycle as the Diamondbacks got a clear advantage over their opponents which eventually they capitalised to overpower the Mariners.
Aaron Hill commented on the game and said, "You just have to take a deep breath, It's something you can easily get excited about and try to do a little too much. It's something where, you've been here before, just get up there, see some pitches and put a good swing on it. That's a special thing, Obviously, the fans are here for us and have been here all year, so it was nice for them to recognize something."
Later manager Eric Wedge said, “Good player, I have seen it for a long time, a powerful player. He gives himself a chance, It looks like he is seeing the ball.”
Hector Noesi did not play well for the Mariners as he was smashed for six run, nine hits and five earned runs while his ERA rose to 5.69 which was one of the losing factors for Seattle side.
Comparing his stats to Diamondbacks’ starter Wade Miley is another alarming contrast. The Diamondbacks' starter Miley tossed seven innings and received only one run on nine hits which is a far better performance than the Mariners' starter who was hammered with six crucial runs.
Meanwhile, this was a healthy sign that the Diamondbacks won the first game, but to ensure a possible post season spot, they will be looking to play with more aggression and try to win the next games as well. The Mariners will be disappointed by their performance as they will be looking to improve their game-play and become more competitive in the series.
