Arizona Diamondbacks secure a comfortable 9-5 win over Philadelphia Phillies – MLB Update
Arizona Diamondbacks secured a comfortable 9-5 win over Philadelphia Phillies at the Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona in the opening game of a three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. Showing great composure, temperament and determination, the Diamondbacks outplayed their rivals in almost all departments of the game.
Justin Upton looked in commanding form for the first time this season as he hit his first home run and singled to set up a cosy win for his team. Jason Kubel also made a useful contribution as he homered to help the Diamondbacks take an impassable 9-0 lead.
Phillies’ starting pitcher Kyle Kendrick had a horrible outing that lasted for just three innings. He gave up seven runs and eleven hits.
"I'm starting to feel better," Upton said. "The doc kind of gave me the go-ahead that it's not going to get any worse, so I'll just play through it. It's been good so far."
"It's more my swing path than anything," Upton added. "When I was playing with the thumb, that kind of got messed up. Now that I'm feeling better I'm able to get a lot more work in. I actually wasn't swinging the bat before. Now I'm able to really get in the cage and get some work in and it's kind of paying off."
Diamondbacks have a now a respectable 9-8 win-loss record this season. Considering the depth and quality in their hitting and pitching line-ups, they can surely turn the tables on any MLB team.
However, consistency is going to be the key for them if they want to progress to the post season. It will be exciting to see if Arizona can give similar results in their next two encounters to earn their first series sweep of the month.
Phillies, on the other hand, will be disappointed with their loss to the Diamondbacks. However, they are themselves to be blamed for the result of the game. Philadelphia wasted too many scoring opportunities in the first seven innings of the contest and although they scored five runs in the ninth, they seemed to have no control over the contest.
