Arizona Diamondbacks shatter Washington Nationals 7-4 – MLB Recap
The Arizona Diamondbacks’ shattered the Washington Nationals 7-4 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, August 12 at Chase Field in Phoenix.
Diamondbacks’ starting rotation played beautifully and earned a great victory for their team. Patrick Corbin was the real difference in his team’s great victory.
He pitched seven solid innings and allowed only two runs and four hits as he retired seven Nationals’ batters to maintain his 3.41 ERA with positive consistency.
"Just having some confidence against these guys, just knowing you can go out there and pitch your game. That's something I've been doing since I came back up. It's been working out," Corbin said with confidence about his performance.
Along with Corbin, relief pitcher Takashi Saito also played well and gave some stability to his team. He pitched 0.1 innings and allowed two runs and three hits.
Diamondbacks’ first baseman Paul Goldschmidt helped his team with the bat as he scored two runs and smashed two hits along with three RBIs on four at-bats. He remained calm on the mound and his slugging percentage stayed consistent at .532.
"They weren't holding me that first pitch (when he was at second) at all, They were pretty far away, so I saw an opportunity, and luckily they made another error, so it worked out," Goldschmidt said.
On the other hand, the Nationals’ pitchers did not perform well and lost the game.
They all allowed seven runs which were enough for the Diamondbacks to win the game.
Ross Detwiler allowed five runs, three hits and four earned runs on 3.18 ERA. He was able to strike-out only two hitters in his 4.2 innings spell.
"He was really under the weather before he even started the game, He was ill, he lost it during the game and you could tell by his mannerisms that he didn't feel right,” Nationals’ manager Davey Johnson said of Ross Detwiler.
Relief pitcher Craig Stammen was also hammered with two runs and three hits on his 2.48 ERA.
Arizona will definitely be feeling confident after putting in a decent performance against the mighty Nationals. It will be exciting to see how far the Diamondbacks can carry their winning momentum forward.
