Arizona Diamondbacks’ shortstop Stephen Drew confident on his return – MLB News
The Arizona Diamondbacks’ shortstop Stephen Drew, who is still recovering from his ankle injury, is looking quite confident ahead of next season for his potential comeback most probably on Opening Day.
Recently he said in the media and told them why he is optimistic for his potential arrival in the coming season and how he will be playing in 2012. Drew said, "It takes time. How much time? I don't know. I know one thing. I'll be playing this year at some point. I wish I knew that answer. I can't see the future.”
He added, “It's been a lot better as far as progression, I've actually said, 'OK, I can do this. I went to the doc two weeks ago. He said everything's looking well. The ligaments and the joints are still healing little bit and it's kind of what I'm dealing with. You've got to have your lateral movement, you've got to run in, everything that you do -- it's unfortunate.”
Drew is a talented player who achieved consistent hitting average of .252 last season as well as five home-runs, 45 BRIs and .317 of OBP. These numbers somehow do not describe his true talent as he was injured and only able to play 86 games for the Diamondbacks last season. Though he could not perform well in 2011 Major League regular season, but overall his career performance is fairly steady as he has achieved a .270 hitting average along with 70 homers, 321 RBIs and .330 OBP.
Experts believe that last season was the only year when he did not finish the season on a high note. Playing for five years in Major League Baseball, Drew has developed his game into a talented all round player. His thrill and athleticism on the field has also inspired many giving him great appreciation. This is also good news for the Diamondbacks’ franchise, who is lately trying to establish a good offensive game plan for the upcoming 2012 season. His arrival will not only bring some winning consistency in the team but the Diamondbacks will also feel very confident competing against top level teams.
