Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Stephen Drew recovering from ankle surgery – MLB News
The Arizona Diamondbacks talented shortstop Stephen Drew is recovering from his fractured right ankle and torn ligaments; however this recovery is taking too long and is also hurting his potential playing chances in this year’s Major League Baseball season.
His recovery process is very slow while the Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson has suggested for him to play an active role in this year’s extended Spring Training which will certainly allow him to play in the ongoing season.
“We're getting there," Gibson said. "A lot depends on how he feels."
"Then after he gets done throwing, we'll run him a bit and see how the calf is," Gibson added. "We're not really that concerned about the pitching part."
Drew is good player and playing in the Diamondbacks since 2006. His career stats of .270 along with 70 home-runs, 321 RBIs and .331 OBP show his true class in the biggest baseball league in the world.
Kirk Gibson has always stated positive for Drew and likes his playing style and approach. He is a bit defensive player, but over the past few years, he has pulled his game with a tremendous pace and now considers as an offensive player who always helps his team in difficult situations.
Coming from a Minor League background, Drew has played in Class A+ with the Lancaster JetHawks along with Double-A for the Tennessee Smokies and Triple-A play for Tucson.
During his Minor League, he achieved his slow defensive and intelligent game, but as soon as he arrived in the Major League, he left his toned down approach and adopted a fast and offensive game plan.
In the meanwhile, Diamondbacks right-hander Takashi Saito is also showing signs of progress regarding his right-calf strain and hoping to make a comeback in the ongoing season.
“Then after he gets done throwing, we'll run him a bit and see how the calf is," Kirk Gibson said for Saito. "We're not really that concerned about the pitching part."
These both players are important for the Diamondbacks and the management is also hoping that these two will soon be playing on field.
