Arizona Diamondbacks sign Cody Ross – MLB Update
The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed left fielder Cody Ross to a three-year deal worth $26 million. The Diamondbacks have already surplus of outfielders in the team but some say that Arizona management has better future plans and Ross’s signing is a first
step towards achieving all possible potential consistent results.
“There may be a move down the line, There may not,” Diamondbacks General Manager Kevin Towers said and explained in the media about this late development which brought the former Boston Red Sox player into the Diamondbacks’ franchise.
He added with more confidence and explained further about Ross’ talent and his calibre as professional Major League player, “He’s a guy who has always been a proven winner, who always delivers when the game is on the line, He’s a clutch performer. I think
one thing that our club was missing a little bit last year was some energy. I think he certainly brings energy to the ballclub.”
Now the Diamondbacks will feel more confident going into a new Major League Baseball season. Ross, a free agent, has signed with the Diamondbacks after a long set of discussions.
“Obviously, if they thought that the outfield was going to be too crowded, they wouldn’t have came after me, I knew they were going to get me enough at-bats and playing in the right places and the right position,” Ross said later in the media and explained
with detail.
Earlier reports stated that his agent is slight reluctant to sign with the Diamondbacks as he wanted Ross to re-sign with the Boston Red Sox with whom he played in the recent past Major League Baseball season.
However, later it revealed that Ross and Diamondbacks reached a mutual understanding and signed a multi-year deal.
Playing with the Boston Red Sox last season, Cody Ross went with consistent numbers. He played with quite brilliance and achieved .267 hitting average along with 22 home runs, 81 RBIs and .326 OBP.
Not only Ross performed well in the last season, but overall his career hitting average of .262 along with 122 home runs, 452 RBIs and .324 OBP.
