Arizona Diamondbacks sweep series against Kansas City Royals with 5-3 win – MLB Update
Daniel Hudson enthralled Kauffman Stadium with his magical pitching spell on Thursday, June 23, to help the Arizona Diamondbacks defeat the Kansas City Royals 5-3.
Hudson threw seven strong innings to sweep the series against the cornered Royals.
Although Hudson initially struggled to gain momentum, he eventually prevailed to assist the team in winning. "We're a confident team right now going into the dog days of summer," Hudson said. "We've got some pretty good streaks going."
Chris Young commenced the game with the 2-hits in the first inning against Felipe Paulino, driving in a two-run homer to give an early 2-0 lead to the Diamondbacks which had already beaten the Royals in the previous two games owing to a charged offence.
Hudson then unleashed his practically unplayable balls to maintain the lead followed by an RBI single of Miguel Montero, taking the lead to 3-0. When the 3-0 lead was secured, there were a few moments which saw Hudson struggling to maintain his grip on the
game.
Matt Treanor earned a single which was a throwing error by Montero and Alcides Escobar went for the second RBI of the inning to bring the Royals back in the game with a 3-2 score. Hudson gave up three hits in the inning.
However, Stephen Drew, who has an average of .263 in June with 11 runs, scored a single to take the Diamondbacks lead to 4-2. Juan Miranda drove in an RBI single in the fourth inning to be in command of the game with a 5-2 lead.
While Hudson maintained his dominance on the game coupled with the strong offence, Matt Treanor did strike a single to centre in the fourth to bring the Diamondbacks’ lead down to 5-3, keeping the game result in wild speculation.
Then Hudson pitched the sixth and seventh innings to the best of his ability, throwing for a scoreless innings. He maintained the pressure on the straining Royals’ offence which was seeking a revival here.
"I'm sure he'll (Hudson) tell you he wasn't real happy," Diamondbacks’ manager Kirk Gibson said. "He couldn't locate like he wanted to, but he battled through it. We didn't help him. We didn't play a very clean game at all. We got very sloppy.”
Hudson, followed by the relievers, succeeded in pitching shut-out innings to complete the series sweep with a 5-3 win. "Hudson pitched awesome," Putz said. "Getting out of here with a sweep is a great way to start a road trip."
Arizona put in a tremendous performance and managed to restrict the Royals’ offence. Kansas City fought hard, but it was not enough for a victory.
The Diamondbacks will now confront the Detroit Tigers on the latter’s home ground.
