Arizona Diamondbacks thrashed by Philadelphia Phillies 0-3 – MLB Recap
The Arizona Diamondbacks thrashed by the Philadelphia Phillies 0-3 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Saturday, August 4 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
Phillies took early lead in the third inning and later just strengthened it with two more runs.
Their entire roster looked confident and never showed any loop-holes in their game which eventually proved decisive in the end as the Phillies thumped Arizona hard.
Diamondbacks’ on the other hand, played quite defensively and later lost in the end. They never attacked on the Phillies’ batting line-up which on consistent basis scored runs and eventually proved too good for the Diamondbacks.
Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said on his team’s performance, "It's really hard to get him when he gets going in his groove.”
Diamondbacks’ entire pitching line-up was destroyed by the Phillies' veteran sluggers as they quickly scored three runs and never gave them any chance to bounce back into the game.
Especially Joe Saunders allowed two runs on six hits along with two earned runs. He struck-out only three Phillies' batters on his 3.57 ERA.
Closer Mike Zagurski also allowed one run, two hits and one earned run in his 0.1 inning spell.
Starter Roy Halladay on the other hand, played well for the Phillies and earned a great victory for his team. He stood tall against the Diamondbacks’ offence and rattled them with his fast the curving pitching.
"The last two games I feel things are going in the right direction, I made some changes and it's nice to see the results, nice to see it pay off," Halladay said.
Halladay added, "As long as the movement's there and I feel like I can beat guys with it at times, that's the important thing, I'm trying not to get too caught up in the whole [losing] velocity thing. For me, if I can see the movement and the swings I'm getting off the barrel, that's what's important to me."
He pitched seven innings and allowed no run on three hits. He also allowed one earned run and struck-out five Diamondbacks’ batters on his 4.02 ERA.
