Arizona Diamondbacks trounce Colorado Rockies 4-2 – MLB Recap
The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Colorado Rockies 4-2 in final and fourth game of their four-match regular series encounter on Sunday, April 28 at Chase field in Phoenix.
With this win, the Diamondbacks also won the series 3-1. The only game they lost was also a close encounter which ended however, in the Rockies’ favour.
On the other, the Diamondbacks bounced back from the game-two defeat with sheer confidence and later won back to back games.
In Sunday’s game, once again the Diamondbacks’ exceptional pitching lineup rose to the occasion and showed their true class. They all pitched well and never allowed the Rockies any hitter to score freely.
Patrick Corbin started the game for the Diamondbacks and pitched 6.2 innings. He allowed two runs nine hits along with two earned runs. He struck out five and showed brilliant consistency with 1.91 ERA.
"I thought today I was as sharp as I've been," said the 23-year-old. "I got a couple of fastballs up and that hurt me a little bit but I was able to keep us in it."
"When you're getting ahead with that first pitch, the second pitch you can throw whatever you want," Corbin said. "It makes it 100 times easier."
He just keeps the ball in play," said Arizona manager Kirk Gibson. "He just competes. He works on things and understands the tools that he's acquired.
Closer J.J. Putz also played wonderfully and showed the opposition a good defensive play as he pitched down in the inning and finished on a high note as well. He pitched one inning and allowed only one hit. He struck out one and remained consistent on 3.75
ERA.
However, the Rockies pitcher unlikely the Diamondbacks’, could not do much on the mound. They struggled all evening. They received hard hitting from the Diamondbacks offensive bating lineup.
Jon Garland pitched six innings for the Rockies as he received four runs and eight hits. He also allowed three earned runs and struck out four on his blistering high 4.65 ERA. Overall it was a poor effort from the Rockies side as they lost the game with
bitter humiliation.
